Our Creation Care Ministry is guided by the Western North Carolina Conference (WNCC) Creation Care (CC) Ministry. WNCC’s CC Ministry is about growing an attitude of caring for God’s very good” creation, and then translating this attitude of caring into intentional acts of caring and justice.

For The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it; for he founded it upon the seas and established it upon the waters. Psalm 24:1-2

The Lord created the world we live in for ALL – humans and non-humans alike – to have equal access to its bounty and life-giving abundance. Then Our Creator entrusted its care to humanity, giving us the role of loving stewards of this remarkable gift. Through our intentional acts of caring and justice, we are witnessing to others our obedience to, and love of, God – showing our neighbors in a very visible way that we value what God gave us, that we are willing to take care of it, and that we will work to assure that the Lord’s bounty is shared with everyone!

Specifically, our CC Ministry falls under Brevard FUMC’s Serve Ministry Team. We are involved in these activities:

1) Assess church lands for the purpose of bringing them into harmony with God’s intentions and systems by identifying and removing invasive plant species; discouraging the use of synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, and other biocides to promote soil health and fertility; and planting native trees that support local insect and other wildlife populations and enhance heat resiliency.

2) Provide opportunities for church members of all ages to connect with and appreciate Creation and our role as stewards of it. Sponsor or promote programs for our church members and our community (native plants, composting, solar energy, electric vehicles, local ecosystems, health impacts of disposable products and other wastes on communities, climate change).

3) Encourage our church to be environmentally friendly by recycling appropriate items, efficiently using HVAC, turning off lights, reducing water use, buying fewer disposable products, and using reusable glassware/silverware/dishes for dinners/receptions.

4) Reduce the amount of waste going to our landfill by compiling and maintaining a list on the church’s website for our community’s use of where to repair, repurpose, donate, compost, or recycle materials.

5) Lead the Adopt-A-Highway litter pick up events.

Our ministry team consists of Mary Arnaudin, Carol Dodson, Bill Ester, Kae Parker, Jeff Randle, Kerry Purselle, Scott Baker, Tom Toering, and Carol Rutledge. We meet on the second Monday of the month at 11 am. Our ministry is open to anyone who would like to join. We also welcome the congregation’s assistance on our projects without being on the committee
